About 148Five

We are a small family run business who are situated in the rural village of Shenton, Leicestershire. The farm is on the Bosworth Battlefield which happened on the 22nd August 1485. The family has occupied the farm since 1947 and has developed the farm ever since then. The farm is run by Ambrose and Iain who are producing high welfare produce with the environment at the forefront of the farming practices.

Our brief history:

  • Took occupation of Fomer Farm in 1947 – Grandfather Walter Long started milking 6 Short Horn cows and was able to live off this and support his family.
  • Ambrose, Walter’s son, then started farming with his father. New enterprises were developed including fattening rabbits for a local butcher and a pig business grew from a single black and white sow to over 120 pigs
  • Ambrose expanded the farm through the 1990s and diversified in milking goats. The herd numbers grew to over 450 milking goats over a 20 year period
  • Since then Iain, Ambrose’s son, has joined the partnership and looked to expand the current sustainable farming practices and educational side of the business.
