About 148Five

We are a progressive business looking to connect our clients, the public and farming through positive interactions. We are a personable business that has developed and diversified to ensure we have been able to deliver maximum value for clients and the environment. Originally based on the site of the Battle of Bosworth, dated 22nd August 1485, the business has evolved since its establishment in 1947

Our brief history:

  • Took occupation of Fomer Farm in 1947 – Grandfather Walter Long started milking 6 Short Horn cows supporting his whole family
  • Ambrose, Walter’s son, then started farming with his father. New enterprises were developed, including fattening rabbits for a local butcher; the pig business grew from a single black and white sow to over 120 pigs and finishing cattle
  • Ambrose expanded the farm through the 1990s and diversified into milking goats. The herd numbers grew to over 450 milking goats over 20 years
  • More recently, Iain, Ambrose’s son, and his family have developed the connection with the public and environment through differing farming practices and developed other enterprises within the business.
